Book In-Person Consult Book Virtual Consult 10 days before your treatment: Discontinue Vitamin-A, Retinol, Tretinoin, or Retin-A unless otherwise instructed by your skin-care professional. 7 days before your treatment: Avoid spending time under UV rays from the sun or tanning beds. Discontinue all scrubs and avoid skincare ingredients that exfoliate your skin, such as Benzol Peroxide, Salicylic Acid, Glycolic Acid, or other AHA's or BHA's. Avoid facial waxing. Shaving, is okay. For those of you who are on an acne-clear regimen, you need to stop the use of stop the use of Renova, Differin, Tazorac, Avage, EpiDuo or Ziana. Wear an SPF 30+ daily. 2 days before your treatment: Stop taking aspirin, ibuprofen, or any other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory. Clients with herpes simplex infection should begin taking an anti-viral medication such as Acyclovir or Valacyclovir. If a prescription is needed, please call our office 1 week before your appointment. Drink lots of water. Hydrated skin works best with a DermaPeel. Wear an SPF 30+ daily. Day of DermaPeel: Avoid going to the gym or engaging in other activities that increase blood-flow to the treatment area. Cleanse your skin with a gentle cleanser and refrain from using make-up. Stay hydrated. Your skin should be well-hydrated on the day of your Dermapeel. Arrive for your appointment in a relaxed state of mind. How to Care for your Skin after DermaPeel Day of DermaPeel: Fir st few hours – you may notice some frosting (white areas of skin), redness, tingling, or burning. Stay out of direct sunlight. If needed, taking a mild over-the-counter pain reliever is effective in managing discomfort. Avoid any activity which causes sweating. If perpetration occurs, you may develop "sweat bubbles" under the skin. Do not shower, or use a pool, hot tub, sauna, or steam bath for 24 hrs. Do not use makeup. Keep skin moisturized with moisturizer or Aquaphor. When applying moisturizer to the skin, be careful as well not to rub or scrub it in. Gently apply a thin layer of moisturizer all over the skin multiple times throughout the day, as needed. Cleanse Gently: Your skin may be irritated and red. Cleanse your skin with cool water (hot water will cause inflammation to the skin) and a gentle cleanser. Use only your fingertips – no washcloths, loofahs, sponges, brushes, etc. Pat skin dry with towel. Do not rub. 1-2 day s after D ermaPeel: You may notice some dryness, irritation, and mild swelling. To combat potential side effects like redness, tingling, and post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation, you need to keep your skin cool. Avoid heat and overexertion. Take only warm showers (not hot), and limit exercise to anaerobic only. Keep gently cleansing the skin 2x day using only gentle cleanser and warm water. Moisturize skin often with moisturizer or Aquaphor. Apply sunscreen of SPF30+ daily, but take care to avoid direct sun exposure. Avoid foundation makeup. Eye and lip makeup are ok to apply. 2-3 days after DermaPeel: Your skin may look flaky or peel. Peeling usually begins around the mouth/chin area. Discolorations or imperfections may temporarily be more noticeable. You may breakout or notice skin looks slightly darker than usual. DO NOT PICK OR PEEL THE SKIN. The #1 rule of chemical peel healing is to let your skin peel on its own. Though it may be tempting to help speed up the process. Removing any dry, dead skin by picking at it or peeling it can damage the newly exposed layer of your skin. Instead, allow your skin to peel on its own and wait until it has fully healed to use any exfoliator. Manually removing the dead skin can lead to possible post-inflammatory hyperigmentation or scarring. You may resume exercise. It is okay to wear makeup, but please make sure you are using quality foundations and c lean makeup applicators. Avoid using any active products (such as Retinols, Vitamin C, AHA, BHA, etc.) unless otherwise directed by your skin care professional. Use plenty of moisturizer and sunblock. Apply sunscreen of SPF30+ daily, but take care to avoid direct sun exposure. 4-5 days after DermaPeel: Any skin peeling will progress upwards and outwards on face. Cleanse skin with warm water and gentle cleanser. Very light pressure with a soft washcloth in circular motions may be used to gently remove any remaining dead skin. A very gentle enzyme such as Truth Treatments Hylauronic Honey Cleanser may be used to gently dissolve the remaing dead skin. 5-7 days after DermaPeel: All side effects should start to subside, and your skin should begin to look and feel “normal”. You’ll see the formation of healthy, new skin, but you may notice some redness or skin that is darker or lighter than usual for up to a month. If face is no longer sensitive, you may resume your normal skin care routine. Spot treat any retinol products by placing a small amount in a dime-sized area near your ear. Let sit overnight. Evaluate for excess irritation. The fresh skin from your peel is still fragile and needs to be protected from direct sunlight. Be sure to apply sunscreen regularly. If pigmentation is an area of concern, the DermaPeel will have begun to lift and lighten the pigment. This is an optimal time to further correct hyperpigmentation by applying a serum or cream specifically designed for this purpose. What Happens if I d on't P eel? Although most people experience peeling of their facial skin, not every patient notices visibly peeling after a DermaPeel procedure. Lack of peeling is NOT an indication that the peel was unsuccessful. If you do not notice actual peeling, please know that you are still receiving all the benefits of the peel, such as: unclogging of pores, stimulation of collagen production, increased cell turnover, improvement of skin tone and texture, and diminishment of fine lines, wrinkles and dark spots.
